Keep Oil Containers Clean
While auditing our packaging areas, I noticed that the lubricant top-up container spouts were left in the "open" position. Airborne contaminants aren't able to enter the oil directly because of the spout design. However, when in the open position, the end of the spout allows dust to accumulate inside the lip. Using a paint pen, I marked "open" and "closed" on the respective positions on the spout. I also painted the round "stop" to indicate which position the spout is in. This reminds operators to close the spout when they're done using the container. (John Hyser, Coors Brewing Co.)

How to Determine Machine Inspection Rates
With any maintenance task, there must be a balance between the cost of the task and the machine's criticality. The best way to start is to decide whether the machine merits monitoring. Among the criteria to take into consideration include the machine's safety risks upon failure, mission criticality, repair costs and downtime cost.
